Reflexology

Healing through targeted pressure points on the body

Reflexology (also called zonal therapy) promotes relaxation, pain relief, improved metabolism, hormonal balance, immunity, and overall well-being.

The therapist acts as a facilitator, activating the body’s natural healing processes through reflexology.

The practice is suitable for all ages, including infants.

More About Reflexology

The holistic principle “the part reflects the whole” is central to reflexology. The session includes stimulation of various reflex zones on the feet, lower legs, thighs, and ears, which correspond to internal organs and bodily functions.

It can address:

  • Metabolism and digestion issues
  • Back, neck, and limb pain or inflammation
  • Respiratory problems
  • Skin conditions
  • Stress-related symptoms

Therapist = key: Reflexologists activate the body’s self-healing system, based on the understanding that the human body is a powerful self-regulating system seeking balance.

Note: Reflexology does not replace proper nutrition, exercise, or medical care. It does not involve diagnosis or interfere with prescribed medical treatments. If serious health issues are detected, referral to a specialist is recommended.

Session duration:

  • Adults: approx. 1 hour
  • Children: shorter sessions
  • Session frequency depends on the condition. Acute issues may require 1–3 times/week, then once weekly, and later biweekly.

Brief History of Reflexology

Reflexology is an ancient healing practice, with references found in 5,000-year-old Egyptian papyri as well as in South American, African, Indian, and Nordic folk medicine traditions. Modern reflexology, as we know it today, was developed in the 1920s in the USA by Drs. William Fitzgerald and Edward Browes, who introduced zonal therapy for pain relief. European development later expanded the method.

In Estonia, reflexology has been a nationally recognized health service since 2007 and is listed in the Estonian Classification of Economic Activities (EMTAK) and the Occupational Qualification Standard.
