History of the House

Graniidi Street was established in 1883 during the subdivision of land plots.
The multi-story building at Graniidi 1 was completed in the second half of the 19th century.

During World War I, a bakery called Küla operated in this house.

In the 1920s, M. Lübeck ran a grocery store at Graniidi 1.
That same decade, a children’s sports club called Algaja (Beginner) was established here. Activities included athletics, football, swimming, and cycling. Track and field competitions and ball games were held in the courtyard.

In 1929, Tallinn’s 4th Branch Library opened in the building.
Today, the library has moved and is known as Kalamaja Library.

After World War II, the building was nationalized and turned into communal apartments.
During the Soviet era, Graniidi 1 was a residential building.

In 2008, we began renovating the house. Our goal was to bring out the nostalgic and homely spirit and history of this wooden house.
We hope we succeeded — come and see for yourself!
