EMDR Trauma Therapy
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapeutic method used to treat symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) caused by psychological trauma. Such trauma may stem from various stressful life events (e.g. accident, loss, abuse, violence), which may hinder one’s ability to adapt. As a result, situations resembling the original traumatic event may later trigger intense emotions and flashbacks, interfering with everyday life.
More About EMDR Therapy
EMDR helps to reduce the impact of traumatic memories by using bilateral stimulation through eye movements, sounds, or tactile input. Bilateral sensory stimulation allows for the processing of negative emotions, sensations, and beliefs associated with the traumatic event, thereby reducing the memory’s emotional impact. Therapy goals and readiness are discussed during an initial consultation with a specialist. The duration of therapy varies depending on the trauma and symptom severity. EMDR is suitable for children, adolescents, and adults.
EMDR is effective for:
- Traumatic stress (e.g. PTSD)
- Dissociative disorders
- Disturbing memories (e.g. accidents, violence)
- Sexual, physical, or emotional abuse
- Grief and loss
- Recovery from physical injury
