Qigong rühmatreening

Qigong Group Training

Gently and purposefully toward a vital balance

Qigong group sessions take place Tuesdays from 18:15–19:15

Qigong (pronounced tshi kung in Estonian) is a powerful practice to promote and sustain health and life energy.

What is Qigong?

Qigong is a movement practice that develops the ability to regulate the body, mind, and breath, guiding and transforming them through structured exercises. This ancient Chinese practice has been in use for at least 3,000 years.

“Qi” is similar to the Sanskrit prana or Greek pneuma, meaning “breath” or “life force.” “Gong” can be translated as “mastery through effort.” Together, Qigong means mastery of the flow of life energy (qi) through the body.

Practicing Qigong regularly balances internal organ function, strengthens muscles, improves joint mobility, and stimulates energy flow—without overloading or injuring joints. Learning correct posture and breathing is essential to the practice.

According to Ilchi Lee1, founder of physical-mental training methods and author of related books, regular Qigong practice has the following benefits:

  • Physical: Realigns posture and spinal balance, relieves pain, strengthens muscles, nerves, and circulation.
  • Mental: Relaxes the body and calms the mind, enhances brain oxygenation and memory, improves stress management, thought clarity, and emotional regulation.

In class, we emphasize the coordination of breath and movement, which improves metabolism and supports overall physical and mental well-being.

What to wear: Comfortable clothes that allow movement. Socks, toe socks with grips, or barefoot training are suitable. You may also wear soft-soled shoes or dance slippers that don’t constrict your toes.

Katrin Essenson

I’ve expanded my knowledge of the human body and being human through art, massage therapy, and various workshops. I’m especially inspired by Shiatsu therapy, which is another holistic method for achieving physical and mental balance, based on meridian theory.

Years ago, I was introduced to the Five Animal Qigong Technique at the Notafe Festival with Takashi Tsumura, which continues to inspire me. The practice of Qigong constantly reveals new ways to maintain dynamic physical and mental balance. I’m also drawn to the philosophy of Eastern martial arts — doing as little as possible to achieve precise results.
